Our story
2018 — Built from two very different backgrounds
One Body LDN began with a shared belief: physiotherapy could be better.
In 2018, our founders, Kurt Johnson and Rebecca, met after Kurt contacted Rebecca on LinkedIn for advice about the physiotherapy industry.
Their backgrounds were very different, but highly complementary.
Rebecca had qualified as a physiotherapist from the University of Liverpool in 2012 and had already built extensive clinical and business experience. After progressing rapidly through senior physiotherapy and business development roles, she helped develop growing London physiotherapy businesses before founding her own practice, Physio LDN, with clinics in Liverpool Street, Holborn and London Bridge.
Kurt came from a background in the London Fire Brigade, competitive sport, strength and conditioning and manual therapy. He had joined the fire service at 19 and spent 14 years as a London firefighter while competing and coaching across combat sports and strength disciplines. Alongside this, he studied for his five-year osteopathy degree, qualifying in 2020.
Kurt began working alongside Rebecca, combining his background in strength, conditioning and manual therapy with Rebecca’s extensive physiotherapy and clinical experience.
That partnership became the foundation of One Body LDN.
A shared idea for better physiotherapy
Both had seen the same problem from different sides of healthcare.
Physiotherapy could sometimes feel reactive rather than proactive. Clinical care, rehabilitation and strength and conditioning were too often treated as separate disciplines. And the experience surrounding treatment did not always reflect the expertise and professionalism patients should expect from healthcare.
They wanted to build something different.
Their aim was to combine expert physiotherapy, hands-on treatment, rehabilitation and strength and conditioning within an environment focused on both clinical outcomes and the overall patient experience.
They also wanted to create a company where physiotherapists were supported to develop as professionals rather than simply treated as another appointment in a diary.
2020 — tested by the pandemic
By 2020, Rebecca’s Physio LDN practice had three London clinics and a growing team.
Then COVID-19 arrived.
Almost overnight, clinic access, bookings and normal working life were disrupted. Rebecca adapted by delivering video consultations and home visits while consolidating the business. Kurt was deployed from the London Fire Brigade to the Pandemic Multi-Agency Response Team (PMART) while completing his final examinations and continuing to develop his knowledge of healthcare, business and marketing.
Rather than abandoning what they wanted to build, the experience strengthened their commitment to it.
Building from Tower Bridge
After the disruption of the pandemic, the business consolidated into a treatment room near Tower Bridge.
Kurt subsequently left the London Fire Brigade to work on the company full-time, while Rebecca relocated to Bermondsey to be closer to the clinic.
The early business was deliberately hands-on.
Rebecca and Kurt treated patients while building the systems surrounding the clinic themselves — from the website and patient communications to operations, marketing and the physical clinic environment.
As demand grew, the small treatment-room practice expanded. The team grew, the clinic received awards and hundreds of five-star patient reviews followed.
The next step was a complete first-floor clinic renovation and the launch of the brand that exists today:
One Body LDN.
Expanding across London
The principle behind One Body LDN has remained the same as the business has grown: raise the standard of private physiotherapy and give patients a better experience of healthcare.
Today, One Body LDN has expanded by opening multiple clinic locations across London, supported by a growing team of physiotherapists and healthcare professionals.
What began as two clinicians working from a small treatment room has become a London-wide physiotherapy company treating thousands of people across the capital.
Growth has never been the objective on its own.
The aim is to build a physiotherapy organisation capable of combining clinical expertise, evidence-informed rehabilitation, hands-on treatment, strength and conditioning and exceptional patient care consistently across every clinic.
We continue to invest in our clinicians, measure patient experience, improve our systems and evolve how we deliver care.
Because the idea that brought Kurt and Rebecca together in the first place has not changed:
physiotherapy can — and should — be better.
